- WELL, ITS A GOOD YARN AT LEAST SANFORD, N. C, February 27. Can a big mouth black bass swallow a quail? If it can, then this story is worth printing. Anglers and gunners should bear in mind that the big mouth black bass of the southern Avaters grows to enormous size. After this brief introduction, heres the yarn. A gunner shot and winged a quail, known as partridge throughout the south. The dog followed to retrieve the- bird going down the bank of a stream. Suddenly at the edge of the water the dog came to a point. The sportsman, -wondering what the dog was standing at point for, noticed a large black bass sunning itself-oh the top of the water. He immediately shot the bass: The dbg plunged in and gdt the fish. Noticing a bulge in the bass the anglers curiosity prompted him to dress the fish immediately. He found in the bass the quail he had winged.
