PEDIGREES OF GOOD HORSES OF TODAY Ancestral Lines that Have Produced Herodiaa Torchbearer and High Cost The filly Herodlas which has recently began to win for W R Coe may improve Into the useful racer her high lineage calls for As a daughter of the unbeaten marvel The Tetrarchj her pedigree is of decided interest and she lacks nothing desirable on the maternal side As a gray in color she bears the Impress of her sire and should be an invaluable broodmare when her racing days are over overTorchbearer Torchbearer has been a capital racer this year Gifted with a high measure of speed he has been confined to sprinting but there is nothing in his ancestry to suggest that he might not stay well if trained for it His sire was noted as a longdistance runner and his dam was a great race mare of high breeding She won the Cambridgeshire of 1903 as a threeyearold with 94 pounds on her back and in 1904 took up the more imposing burden of 122 pounds and won that famous handicap again It has been suggested with good reason that he is well qualified to make a successful sire in time timeHigh High Cost is one of the best middleweight sprint ¬ ers of the day and may be the fastest of the fast horses the fine broodmare Mitten has given the American turf He goes back to Bonnie Scotland through both his sire and his dam The pedigrees of the three are presented here and all three will stand critical inspection and dis ¬ section
