SUN BRIARS FIRST RACE IMPRESSIVE NEW YORK N Y July 14 Sun Briars per ¬ formance in the Domino Handicap was more im ¬ pressive than it would appear at first glance It was his first time out and he was asked to give Boamer sixteen pounds a horse that throughout his career has been noted for speed as well as stay ¬ ing qualities What is more convincing Roamer has been showing well in his work indicating he is regaining some of the speed of earlier years In alluding to the effort of Sun Briar Henry Mc Daniel his trainer said Show me the horse that could have done better with Roamer under the weight conditions as good as Roamer is today Lucullite might pick up 130 pounds to Roamers 114 and beat him but there is a doubt about that Sun Briars race did not take any of he glory away from him in my opinion though he was beaten Mr McDaniel was not alone in his opinion many horsemen expressing the same views especially pronounced when the fact is considered that Sun Briar ran the lightly weighted LErrant into defeat in the first fiveeighths Some experts think Sun Briar never ran a much better race than lie did yesterday yesterdayJames James Rowe and Albert Simons who train for H P Whitney have a good line on the ability of Brookholt through his trial witli Cobwebs If Cob ¬ webs is the pick of the Whitney band which is hardly probable when Panoply is good then Brook holt is a colt far better than the ordinary If Cobwebs does not compare favorably with Panopy or others of Whitneys then Brookholt may meet defeat in the coining rich stakes though he has every chance to improve decidedly as neither of his races were over a fast track Consequently he was probably at a disadvantage in both races Those who have seen Brookholt extended ou a fast track pronounce him a highclass colt
