ANOTHER FRIAR ROCK SHINES Fast Filly Valley of the Moon Shows High Class at First Asking Public Fully Aware of Her Speed. When trainer Fred Burlew advised J. II. Rossetcr to let S. C. Hildreth have Inchcape, the Friar Rock Rose of Gold colt, for something more than 00,000 during the Aqueduct meeting in July, Burlew intimated at the time that he had other Friar Rocks in the Rosseter stable equally as fast as Inchcape if not faster. He probably referred at that time to Montalvo, the Friar Rock Catherine Carson colt, which has been delayed from going to tlie races on account of some kind of a skin disease. He also mentioned Valley of the Moon, the fast filly which made her debut Friday at Saratoga and won at the first asking like a good one. Valley of the Moons promise was not overlooked by the public, as the work watchers had tabbed her long ago, when she was caught three-eighths of a ! mile in better than :34. She, of course, was at j odds-on among a band of maidens and won practically eased up by four lengths. Private dockers caught the filly Friday running tlie firs.t half of the five-eighths dash in :45 anil finishing tlie distance in :59, Thi,s is a fine performance for a first-time starter and it may be that Valley of the Moon will prove a formidable opponent for Prudery, Careful and Crocus. Valley of tlie Moon Is by Friar Rock Masquerade. Masquerade is a daughter of Disguise, while her second dam is Splendor, by Sheen. It is not improbable that Friar Rock will send to the races this year the fastest colt and filly in Inchcape and Valley of tlie Moon. The latters next important stake engagement is in the Spin-away, to be run at Saratoga Saturday, August 28. Valley of the Moons owner, Mr. Rosseter, failed to name her for either the 1921 Epsom Derby or Oaks, but he has named Montalvo. by Friar Rock Catherine Carson, and Merchant Marine, by Friar Rock- Dorothy Gray, for the Epsom Derby and the fillies Gallant Foe, by Friar Rock Watermelon, and Scotland Yet, by Friar Rock La Patrie, for the Epsom Oaks. Tlie latter has started three times since July 1, but she has as yet been unable to earn brackets. Her last start was August 18, in the Grab Bag Stakes at Saratoga, where she finished eighth. Gallant Foe has been to the post but once and that was in a maiden race last Tuesday, when she finished eighth in a race won by Honey Girl. The colts named in the Epsom Derby have never been to the post.
