THE ALLY raced forwardly from the start and had no mishaps. VIC closed up steadily Under Vigorous riding. JAMAICA BELLE tired in the stretch BODANZKY ran a good race. TAMARISK began slowly. AFTERNOON took the lead at-the start and, setting a fast pace under slight restraint in the early running, drew away while rounding the last turn, but tired in the stretch and just -lasted long enough to win. YELLOW HAND, shuttled back at the start, was saved behind the leaders until in "the stretch, then closed up fast when called on and would have won in another stride. AAESTWOOD was a close-up contender for three-quarters, but tired in the last eighth. SAVEET MUSIC closed a big gap in the last quarter. FAISAN DORE quit after going well for three-quarters. -Scratched--1944! Won driving; second and third the same. SERAPIS gradually improved his position on the outside of tlie leaders and, coming-fast in the stretch, outstayed HILDUR in tlie final drive. HILDUR set a great pace and held on gamely; when challenged, but was ridden closely by SERAPIS and a claim of foul was lodged, but not allowed. DARTMOOR, away in a tangle and in close quarters in the early running, slipped through next to the inner rail in the last "eighth and finished gamely. PAGAN PAN, always a forward contender, was forced wide when entering the homestretch and tired. STEP LIGHTLY, away poorly, rah a creditable race. BROOM SPUN raced in close quarters in the early running, but could not improve his position, however, when clear in the homestretch.
