GRAND RAGING AT LATONIA Two Rich Stake Races Decided Before a Big Crowd. Minto II. Takes Twin City Handicap in a Great Struggle with Sway. BY J. L. DEMPSKY. LATONIA, Ky.AOctober 9. Racing of the highest order developed at Latonia this afternoon as a result of the splendid offering, featured by the Fort Thomas Handicap at three-quarters mile, for two-year-olds, and the Twin City Handicap, at a mile and five-eighths, for three-year-olds and over. Both stake races had SO.000 added, the youngsters dash netting the winner 1920.sh,740 and ,300 fell to the victor in the long race. Both races were highly enjoyable, but the Twin City Handicap provided greater thrills by virtue of the stubborn battle that Minto II. and Sway Waged through the stretch, culminating in their finishing noses apart and the victor in doubt, until the official placing. Best Pal landed in third place. Minto II. and Sway had been in the thickest of the running from the start, both staying close to Sterling, the pacemaker. They simultaneously passed the leader just about when beginning the last quarter of the race and from that point to the finish they measured strides practically on even terms, Minto II, poking his nose in front right -at the end. Sways failure-might be charged ta.his stubborn post behavior, where for six minutes, he continuously reared and wheeled and refused to join the others. When the start was effected it was to a perfect send-off. Rangoon, carrying former Senator Johnson N. Camdens silks, again demonstrated his sterling worth by the impressive fashion in which ie beat .the other dozen youngsters- contesting the- Fort Thomas .Handicap home. Muskallongcs attempt to bolt on the stretch turn caused Rangoon some interference, but he overcame it speedily and in the last eighth drew away decisively to win by a clear interval. Muskallouge outstayed the otlicrs for second place, with McGoodwin just getting up in time to boat Gangway for third place. The fleet Believe Idle Hour displayed high speed in the early racing, but she gave way under her weight in the stretch drive.
