HILDRETHS DAY AT JAMAICA Takes the Two Feature Races with Mad Hatter and Cirrus in Fast Time. NEW YORK, N. X., October 9. S. C. Ilildreths horses: Mad Hatter and Cirrus, both ridden by "Buddy" Ensor, were the winning combination at Jamaica today. Cirrus, the odds-on choice for the Continental Handicap, feature of the program, followed Naturalist for the first three-quarters, where he passed the Widener racer and came on to win by nearly a length from Senning3 Park. The latter ran a good race. Naturalists race was a poor one in comparison with his real form this year, and i he probably sulked. Cirrus, however, is an im-proved horse and ran within two-fifths of a second of the track record. The third race proved easy for S. C. Hildreths Mad Hatter, which took the lead at the rise of the barrier and maintained his position all the way. Tom McTaggart, hard ridden, was his closest attendant and finished second, seven lengths in front of Enfilade. The latter ran a poor race and was tiring at the finish. Le Gaulois earned brackets in the second race, defeating an ordinary band of platers by six lengths. Asterisk, the favorite, finished last. King Agrippa, one of the choices, was second and Tom Brooks was third. Le Gaulois began in front and easily held his opponents safe all the way. King Agrippa raced closely with Asterisk for the first quarter, but after the latter horse quit he was unmolested for second money throughout the running of the race. Episode, an outsider, won the opening dashj with Squaw Man, one. of the closing choices, last. Episode, saving ground on all the turns, came fast next to the rail through the stretch and got up in the closing strides to beat Silence, another long-shot, by a head. Ballynew, one of the choices, was an early pacemaker, but tired when the real racing began and finished, far back. C. A. Applegate claimed Lo GauIMs out of the second race for ?1,805 and Charles Koehler took King Agrippa out of the same race for ,325.
