Snyder and running in the colors of G. R. Tompkins, won the Patuxent Steeplechase which featured the racing at Laurel Park this afternoon. Mrs. F A. Clarks Blighty II. finished second. The Greentree Stables Debadon was third and J. E. Wideners Joyful fourth. The race was worth ,450 to the winner. N A field of nine faced the starter to contest for the rich prize and a good race resulted. Debadou went to the front and made the pace until midway of the second turn, despite losing much ground by swerving at all the fences. Passing through the stretch Debadou dropped back and Highland Liglit, which had followed him closest, took the lead and maintained it to the end, holding on with courage when Ticket moved up witli a challenge in the final eighth. However, Highland Liglit probably would have been beaten had not Ticket fallen at the last fence Ticket, coupled witli Bughouse as the Ral Parr entry, was favorite. Two-year-olds played an important part in todays racing, three of the seven races being for juveniles. TJie get of Lough Foyle was successful in two of them. Both ran in the colors of E. B. McLean and Butwell rode the pair Lough Red won the opening dasli at a mile, coming from behind to beat Galiot and Zealous. Lough Swilly defeated a better band over the three-quarter course. Harmonique, the imported colt from the Ross stable, finished second to Lough Swilly and Transient was third. Lough Swilly made all the pace and held on gamely to win by half a length. Lough Swilly is considered by J. F. Schorr, trainer of the McLean horses to be the best of the Lough Foyles, and his performance today warrants the belief, but there is much consolation in the race for Lough Red, for in it he gave the first positive indication of the ability of Iii.-s breed to go the route longer than the usual sprinting distances. Sailing B., sporting the colors of J. K. L. Ross, Avon the other two-year-old race Butwell, who rode Lough Storm, claimed a foul against Nolan, astride Muttikins, for cutting him off in an attempt to come through on the inside rail in the last quarter, but the complaint was dismissed. The apprentice jockey under contract lo J. K. L. Ross who lias been riding under the name of J. Grune, beginning tomorrow, will ride as J Grue- neisen. which is bis proper name. Gene Lutz has been called to Cincinnati by ro- ceipt of word that his wife is. not expected to live. Mr. Lutz himself is on crutehes as the result of a strained ligament. Phantom Fair was claimed out of the sixtli race by J. B. Dunn for ,700 and Jock Scot claimed by M. J. Murphy out of the same race for ,651. J. F. Schorr has shipped Barley Water and Flying Welshman to the farm of D. B. McLean, at Ash- burn, Virginia. Flying Welshman went wrong at Havre de Grace. Barley Water will be retired to the stud. Charley Houbres Celt Animus colt Secretary lias been gelded. G. R.. Allens Vera Wood was badly cut down in her race yesterday and will be rested up uutil the scene shifts to the winter tracks.
