BULLET PROOFS EASY WIN Comes Out in Great Form and Easily Defeats A. N. Akin. Dannell Pails the Clopton Stable Jefferson Park Track Still Heavy, but Favorites Thrive. BY J. L. DEMPSEY. NEW ORLEANS, lot.. November 20. A pronounced off-ilay card, coupled with threatening weather, militated against the racing lur this afternoon, in that it caused a noticeable fulling off In the expected attendance. The track w-as of the improving sort, usually held to be productive of upsetting calculations, but the contrary was the rule, for form was well preserved, and favorites scored in most instances, but their victories at times was only achieved after the hardest kind of efforts. The fiftii race was the outstanding contest from the point of good class horses and it enabled Bullet Proof, rated last winter in these parts as one of the best, to score easily. Judging by his impressive victory this afternoon he is fully rounded to his best form, and should cut a prominent figure In future racing. He was kept in restraint until reaching the stretch, where ho raced by Youneed, the leader, with the utmost ease, and the finish found him under restraint. A. N. Akin, after a tardy beginning, came with a rush when "Lunsford rode him hard and succeeded in getting up in the last stride to overhaul Youneed for second place. The, Clopton connections had large expectations of scoring a double during the afternoon. Dannell, in the maiden dash, the first race on the card, Teoellng their confident support- blit-mO or? f taiV tering during the early running by maintaining a good ,lead, tired badly and failed to get a part of; the purse, Fantoehe winning from The Moor, with Secretary in third place. Itagazza, supported to the exclusion of all others at odds-on, had no difficulty scampering home in advance in the second race. Ablaze, also well backed, had just as easy a time of it in winning the . third race. The fourth race, in which the largest field of the afternoon took part, fell to an extreme outsider,. Huen, which drew away from Ionia with ease in the stretch. Dahabiah II. repeated her good performance of Saturday and won from Betsy and She Devil in the sixth race. C. P. Miles, represented in the sixth race by She Devil, claimed Dahabiah II. at a cost of ,200. Chester Applegnte, owner of Arnold and other horses that will be raced here next winter, was among the newcomers this morning. Joe Ulume joined the ranks of the layers this afternoon and will remain for the season. Jockey Lykc made his appearance here an auspicious one, for he landed his first mount, Fantoche, winner after a masterly riding exhibition, which gained for him much applause on his return to the weighing scales. Starter A. B. Dade, who will officiate iit the barrier during the Fair Grounds meeting, will arrive tomorrow, but will only remain at thin time briefly, for ho intends putting in some time hunting in the near-by marshew. Starter Edward Tribe, who will do the starting here after the close of the Bowie meeting, is due to arrive Thursday. James Osborne, who is now dispatching the fields here, will begin schooling yearlings at the Fair Grounds. Tex Forman was an arrival this morning with the horses Golden Autumn and .Itunzaf. Jockey T. Nolan was an addition to the riding ranks and will do most of the riding for the J. J. Murphy stable. Trainer Tom Shannon announced todny that his good colt Pluribus would be rested from racing until the Fair Grounds meeting. He is at present taking daily exercise and is in fine form. The disastrous results of the first three days did not cause much thinning out in the ranks of the layers, for thirty-seven of them plied their vocation this afternoon. L. Sperlings claim for Itagazza in the second race was held void by the stewards, on account of a shortage of 00 in the tendered claiming amount.
