NO OPPOSITION TO THE BETTS BILL ALHANY N Y March 11 Proposal for a state tax of 12 per cent on the gross receipts of run ¬ ning and trotting races was furthered Tuesday when no opposition was expressed atn hearing on the bill of Assemblyman Charles II Hetts of Wayne pending enactment in the legislature One result of the hearing was the announcement of Assembly ¬ man Hetts that the bill would be amended to pro ¬ vide exemption from taxation of the harness racing meets conducted at Goshen Monroe and Middle town as requested by Pierre Lorillard of Tuxedo who appeared at the hearing These events Mr Lorillard told members of the Assembly Commit ¬ tee on Taxation and Retrenchment were held solely to encourage breeding of horses
