HURDLE RACE A THRILLER Spectacular Contest Witnessed at Tijuana Sat ¬ urday Hickorynut Winner in Fast Time SAN DIEGO Cal April 21 Despite the bleak raw weather which prevailed yesterday a Saturday crowd of good proportion considering the weather turiied out to watcli the thoroughbreds in competi ¬ tion at Tijuana TijuanaThe The hurdlers were again the attraction of the afternoon and a spectacular race resulted Six jumpers answered the call of the bugle with 7 A I a i sons Jake Schas and G F Hums Hickorynut both heavily supported Off to a good start 1 Moody sporting the colors of William Red Walker set the pace and led until the third jump where Jake Schas took the obstacle with him muzzle to muzzle Unfortunately for the last named horse his rider jockey Vogt lost his stirrup at this point However horse and rider continued on and Jake Schas led to the hist hazard situated midway in the stretch Here both P Moody and Hickorynut drew up on even terms with the leader and the crowd rose to their feet and cheered wildly as the three cleared the hurdle as one horse From there on to the wire Hickorynut gradually forged to the front and the finish saw the aged daughter of Hessian Lycliee Nut winning by two lengths with Jake Schas a driving second with but a half length advantage over P Moody The others were beaten off offFew Few people who watched tho running of this
