THREE STAKE ATTRACTIONS Feature This Weeks Racing at Lexington Blue Grass Stakes Derby Trial LEXINGTON Ky April 24 Throe stake races will be decided this week the Ashland Oaks Hinata Stakes and Blue Grass Stakes Each will have an added value of 3000 and large fields are in sight for all of them The Ashland Oaks will IK run Tuesday the Ilinata Thursday and the Blue Grass on Saturday Major Thomas C McDowell a member of the Kentucky State Racing Commission and for many years one of the leading turfmen of this state will donate a silver trophy to the winner of the Oaks This race is named in honor of his Ashland Place near this city cityMrs Mrs Clarence Le Bus of Ilinata Farm fame will provide the trophy for the Ilinata Stakes This affair will be at a half mile for twoyearold fillies and ninetyone were named for it Sis ¬ ters and halfsisters to some or the best horses of the present day are included among the eli gibles During the six years life of this race the J O and G II Kcene stable has Iteen the only establishment to win it twice In 11 Yerniiila accounted for it while last year Miss Muffins was successful successfulThe The Blue Grass Stakes is rightfully held to be the Kentucky Derby trial race though none of its winners have ever duplicated their success in the Derby It is for threeyearolds over the route of a mile and an eighth and of its fortythree eligibles only a few are not entered in the Derby This is the race that really draws the Derby prospects to Lexington and it not only gives the turfmen a line on their ability but the financial inducements are such as to warrant an owner send ¬ ing his best threeyearold to it The Blue Grass Stakes was first run in 1911 but it has had a broken career as it has only been run five times in ten years Its winners are Governor Gray Sprite Bronzewing Regalo and Peace Pennant This year it appears that the field will probably include Uncle Velo Centimeter Behave Yourself Jllack Servant JUuribus Leonardo JLjwBoHiHonime Rangoon John S Reardon Sir Thomas Kean Bet tina and Secret Greetings GreetingsMany Many of the good eastern threeyearolds were not entered in this race because their owners fig ¬ ured on shipping direct to Louisville from Havre de Grace
