SOME CASES OF MIXED IDENTITIES George Duller purchased in the Park Paddocks, Newmarket, on April 29 Nan San, a bay five-year-old mare, by Santoi Nonoya, and Dutch Toy, a bay four-year-old daughter of Santoi Amsterdam. These were secured on behalf of Mr. A. W. Simpson fpr 900 guineas and 4S0 guineas respectively. Owing to -a mistake in the .delivery of these mares some confusion lesulted, and it was after the Victoria Handicap at Sandown that the late owner informed Duller that Nan San, which he then ran as such, was really Dutch Toy. This explanation was accepted by the stewards after they had been told by the trainer how the mistake occurred. Neither had previously run since their purchase. A more notable mistake occurred in the eighties with DOrsay and Mortaigne, both foaled in 1880, and bred by II. A. Harrison. These ran under the wrong pedigrees for some time, for it was not until they were three-year-olds, that the mistake was rectified in the "Racing Calendar." The error arose through the pair being confused when yearlings. A more recent instance was that of the bay filly by Cylgad Taslett, which through an oversight was entered and run in 1918 as the filly by Spearmint Depeche, and. was subsequently aptly named Vice Versa. London Horse and Hound.
