BIG RETURNS FROM RACING Windsor and Fort Erie Tracks Prove to Be Fertile Fields. f Statement to Government Reveals Source of Revenue for Both Organizations. : TORONTO, Ont.. August 25. A total of .,850,820 was wagered at the first summer meeting of the Windsor Jockey Club, which ended July 19, according to the returns received by the Hon. Peter Smith, provincial treasurer. Returns received from the Niagara Racing Association, which operates the Fort Erie track, show a total of 4,077,344 wagered during the second meeting 011 that track, from August 8 to August 15. Tlie Windsor Clubs statement, which is for tlio first six months of the year, places the dubs receipts at 04,545.31. The total was made up as follows: Interest income .0,785.00 Miscellaneous 310.50 Membership .." 4,530.00 Grounds privilege 2,240.00 Gate, less amusement tax of 25 cents on 51,257 tickets 140.984.25 Progra ms ; . . . 5,390.25 Checking 20s!io Muliicl commission 115,832.90 Restaurant 8,207,10 The clubs percentage was 3 per cent on the .,S51,S20 wagered. Expenditures totaled 84,-421.92. including a mutuel payroll of 9,943, taxes of 2,500 and purses of 2,200. Profit at th period which ended July 31 was given at 0,124.39. It was pointed ont that only 50 per cent, of general expenses and 50 per cent of taxes and revenue taxes hart been included in this half yearly statement. The statement of the Niagara Racing Association shows that that body received S122.320.02 as its percentage on the ,077,344 wagered, with a surplus percentage of 0,600.78. Receipts totaled 81,211.34, of which 3.3,950.73 represented admissions. The associations surplus amounted to 8,437.02.
