HAGERSTOWN GETTING READY Large Number of Horses Arriving Daily Assures Successful Meeting. BALTIMORE, Md., August 25. The Hagerstown Fair Grounds is a busy place these days, where over a hundred thoroughbreds are being given heir final preparation for the opening of the five-day meeting on August 30. From then until September 3 racing will continue daily, with seven races each day. During the last few days several carloads of horses have arrived at the grounds, some of which came from Canada. The track management has arranged liberal putses. This has resulted in owners of a better grade of horses than liave ever been seen on a half-mile track here shipping their thoroughbreds to Hagerstown for this meeting. Racing has always been popular at the Hagerstown track. It is not only ideal for the comfort of the patrons, but it is located so well and in such a healthy section of the state that it is most desirable for the benefit of the horses. At Hagerstown horses always do well and it Is seldom that a case of sickness is reported among the hundreds of animals quartered there. Yesterday several carloads of horses reached the course from Phoenixville, Pa., where a successful meeting closed Saturday. In the consignment were the stables of II. T. Palmer, Airginia turfman; Harry Herdel, J. J. OToole, of New York; C A. Applegate, Thomas S. Young, J. S. Garrett, R. Stiles, F. L. Stevens, AA I. Althouse, J. L. Murphy, O. II. Morrison, L. Campbell, J. G. Chancy, F. Snyder and numerous others.
