SARATOGA CUP ELIGIBLES Fifty-Six Turf Aristocrats Named for Famous Race. Exterminator Has Won It Twice and Will Try Again List of Entries. The Saratoga Cup is not only one of the oldest of Saratoga races, but one of the most famous of American stakes. It was inaugurated in 18G5 as a two and one-quarter miles event and was won that year, and the year following, by Kentucky. Subsequently the distance was altered on several occasions, until in 1902 it was changed to one and three-quarter miles, and has remained so since. In 1875 Springbok and Preakness ran a sensational dead heat for the Cup and established a record of 3:5014 for the two and one-quarter miles, which has not since been equaled. Exterminator won the race in 1919 and 1920 and last year established a new American record of 2:50 for the distance. The eligibles for this years running are selected from the aristocrats of the older division of the East and Arest and It is hoped that a larger and more representative field will contest it than has iu the lest few years.
