ARRIVE AT FAIR LATONIA Turfmen and Horses in Large Numbers Reach Kentucky. Bradley Stars Beturn From Saratoga Williams Bros, and Van Meter Strings Get In. ! 1 T.ATONIA. Ky.. August 20. T king the picture if health, general manager ilatt J. Winn of the Kentucky Jockey Club, arrived here Sunday and immediately started to busy himself with the innumerable details connected with the opening next Saturday at Latonia of the Kentucky season of autumn raring. Itesident manager Harry Breivogel. who has been working indefatigably on the preliminary arrangements, was able to give Colonel Winn most glowing reports regarding the outlook. A steady stream of horses for the meeting continues to pour into the I.atonia track and Sunday witnessed the arrival of a number of important establishments. The main division of the K. It. Hradley stable, in care of Dick Thompson, arrived from Saratoga after a disappointing season at the Spa track. Some compensation, despite the non-success of his stable, is found in the fact that nil of the ailing horses have fully recovered. All of them, with the exception of Heinorecnreful. arrived ill fine condition liemoreca refill developed a fever en route, but is not in any danger. The arrivals included Hlaek Servant, Hehave Yourself, Hest Ial. liet Mosie, Bit o ltlack, Hit ;f White, Hill and Coo and Bobbed Hair. The stables jockey. Lawrence Lyke. is visiting iiis home in New York state, but will be here Friday. The stable did better at Windsor, where Ttest Ial won the Frontier Stakes and ltlack Servant finished second to Gray Ijig- in the Dcvonshire-Jiiternational Staves. Arrivals today from Louisville included the stables of C. C. Van Meier and Williams Itros. The former establishment comprised JIarjorie Ilynes, flighty Man, Demos, Buckingham. De Honero anil Lina Clark, Brother Hatch, the I.atonia Derby winner, and Coyne had to lie turned out as they had not fully recovered from the leg ailments they developed in their last race at the I.atonia summer meeting. Brother Hatch developed a quarter crack which subsequently opened while Coy;ie struck himself in his last race. The horses that Pete Williams brought were Napoo, Allivan, Lackawanna. Opulent, Omnipotent, Melvin, Sandman II.. and Jovial, all of which summered in splendid condition and are ready to race. Milo Shields announced that he had sent Brad-lcys Choice and Koibly to his farm near Falls City, Neb., to be turned out for the winter. The only horses he has in training at present are Jim llcfferjug, Hy Holly and Kichelieu. GENTRY STRING IN CONDITION. The stable of Lloyd Sentry, which summered at Latonia, gives promise of annexing many purses in the fall, as all the horses with the exception of Flags are in perfect condition. Flags is still bothered with ankle trouble, which will keep him in his stall for several weeks. The other horses are Angon, Sterling, Sir Thomas Kean. Buddy Kean. Tin? Ally, LKrrant. Rising Kock. Sround-Swcll and Itoll On. The stable will command the services of both jockeys T. Murray and Walter Taylor, both having fully recovered from the injuries they sustained at the I.atonia summer meeting. Al Woodman, who formerly handled the stable of -Mrs. M. Dattner, is now in charge of J. Marinos establishment, having succeeded C. Houghton as trainer. The stable, which arrived a few days ago from Windsor, includes Kapid Traveler. Hidden Jewel, Stamp, Trust Official. Searchlight III., Si-eat Still. Master Hill, Bashful and Concentrate. .1. D. Mooney. under contract to the stable, is also here for the meeting. Fifteen stalls have been reserved for tin: stable of "Hud" Fisher, but the horseswill not reach here until next week. Dr. Clark, the colt that Mose Goldblatt recently purchased from the Whitney, stable, has arrived here and should strengthen the Cincinnati turfmans establishment. CENTIMETER RECOVERS FROM INJURY. Dick Vestal, who kept his stable at Latonia all summer. lias all of the horses in his care in fine condition. The three-year-old Centimeter lias fully recovered from the injury last spring that put him out of commission and will be seen under colors at the coining meeting. Ave and Wade McLemore. which went wrong in tiie spring, are also ready to face the barrier again. With the daily arrival of horses for the meeting that opens next Saturday the I.atoni.i track is taking on an appearance of much activity that increases as the day of the opening approaches. Horsemen and race followers are also arriving in large numbers for the season. Numbered among todays arrivals were Major T. C. McDowell, who spent the off-season at his farm near Lexington; "ol. W. K. Applei;ate, who has been sojourning in the country since the Latonia summer meeting, and Ham Keene, who had been campaigning a few horses on the Windsor tracks. Dr. Talbott, the well-known veterinarian, returned today after a visit of six weeks in the Adirondack Mountains. Kd Kucbclknmp got in from Windsor today. Jockey Bert Kennedy, formerly with the stable of Sifford A. Cochran and who will ride for Kd Trotter, is a recent arrival from New York. Jockey Newton Barrett arrived today from Canada. He has severed his connection with the stable of . W. Clark and will ride as a free lance. Danny Mori-arity, business agent for the stable of Kay Spence. Is a recent arrival from Hot Springs, Ark. Cal Milam paid a visit to the track .Monday and announced that his stable would leave Saratoga Tuesday. Hacitig secretary Will Shelley opened his office today for the transaction of business with the horsemen. Roger Sullivan, the clubs bookkeeper, is on hand for the meeting. The horses belonging to C. The better-known ones are Captain Mac, Sway. United Verde, White Star and Tom Hare Jr. Steve Wida. the stables rider, who sustained serious injuries, when thrown in a race the last meeting here has almost recovered, but will not be nTie to restime riding until the latter part of the meeting. Mr. Barnes has been notified that his employer C. W. Clark Will be here for the meeting. The stable has twenty fine looking yearlings at San Mateo, Cal.. which are now being Iirr.ken. They will be shipped to Louisville late in the fall. The only yearling that Barnes has here is a fire looking colt, a brother to Kscovar. The horses in the Keene Bros. stab:o mat were loft at Latonia this summer are all in firie condition and ready to go on and race, they are Miss Muffins, Willow Tree, Loveliness, Cumedie Dar-mour and Inquiry. The string that Ham Keene took to Windsor were taken "sick and did not race on the Canadian tracks. Jeanne Bowdre, Lucknow and Secret Greetings, the trio that Jack Keene raced at Saratoga are due to reacli here hi a couple of days. The five-year-old Col. Livingston, which broke down in his early three-year-old stage, is again training soundly for his owner, B. .7. Brannon, and will be campaigned this fall. Col. Livingston was regarded as the champion two-year-old of the West in 191S and his failure to stand up under training as a three-year-old was a severe disappointment to Ids owner. The other horses that are training satisfactorily for owner Brannon are Blue Paradise, Col. Winn, Kingfisher, Green Grass, Red Leaf, Golden Dreams, Last Rose, Col. Baker, Little Blossom and T. J. Pendergast.
