LATONIA HANDICAP TODAY i : Fifteen Swift Ones Named to Start in the Feature Race. Capital Entries in the Races For the Opening- Day of Kentucky-Fall Racing-. LATONIA. Ky .Sept. 2. Kentuckys fall racing, which this year will bo of forty-seven days duration, divided as follows: Latonia, thirty-one. days; Churchill Downs Louisville, ten days, and Lexington, six days, will be ushered in tomorrow with Latonia leading off. This is an experiment in the history of Kentucky fall racing, as heretofore it has been The custom, until last year, to have La-tonia furnish the windup. Last year Latonia followed Lexington, with Louisville as the final point. The present arrangement is expected to prove beneficial all around for Latonia, as the mo,t important racing point, will be assured good weather and the elosing at Lexington will enable horsemen intending to go into winter quarters to be at their objective without further shipping. A departure also this year that is expected to be fruitful is that the racing commences and finishes almost two weeks earlier than in previous years, the closing occurring on October 29. A better Outlook for a successful season could not be desired. An abundance of good horses are available. The jockey list compares well with the best in the land and the purse and stake offerings fdr the three courses is in excess of that given horsemen anywhere on the American continent. Six other races at varying distances and bringing nut tome of the better grade in their respective divisions, make up the remainder of the card and will serve as a" magnet to bring out the full strength of race goers in these parts. The racing will begin at 2 p. in., and will continue so at the other tracks next fall. TRACK IK FINE CONDITION. Track superintendent Charles Nolte has the plant in excellent condition, the additions to it Muring the lapse of racing adding to its picturvsquc appearance and solidity. All of the officials who will serve at the meeting, with the exception of starter A. B. Dade, are on hand for the opening. Mr. Dade, who is dispatching the fields at Devonshire, is due to arrive Saturday morning. The local horse colony was considerably augmented by the arrival this morning of horses from various points. Galluher Bros.. Nugent Bros., .lack Mas-lerson and Rogers and Joe Imensetter got in. from Windsor. The stables of George .1. Long. Dortch Bros., M. Reiser and A. L. Rogers arrived from Louisville, while Jack Baker, .1. II. Nichols and French Brooks were the ones to arrive from Lexington. The Gitllaher consignment embraced Sewell Combs, Kinburn. La Foudre. Old Chap. Black Rock. Pongee, "Whirl, Glengarry, Tulane and Glyn. and all reached Jierc in splendid condition, with the exception of Whirl, which is still suffering from an ailment contracted at Windsor. The Nugent Bros. string consisted of Planet. Bullet Proof. Belgian Queen. Furbelow. Inspector Hughes, Grace and Dixie Carroll. U. .1. Ilak brought Sea Prince. All Right Sir, Duke of Wellington. Black Pat, Coral and Don Pepe. while Bob Rogers unloaded Cheer leader. Docod. Honolulu Boy. Pr. Uae, Ring Rose, The Wit and Blossom Houfe. loo Umcnsetter only returned with three, these being Ruby, Refugee II. and Old Miss. EXTERMINATOR. COMING WEST. Exterminator will be sent here immediately aftr the runuini; of the Belmont Park Autumn Cup. He is ineligible to the Gold Cup, to be run at the Mime track, on account of being a gelding. Exterminator is destined to stait in all the cup races at Latonia, Ijexington and Louisville, and will find auything but walkovers here. Jack Baker brought a large string from Lexington, that comprised Aphie Dear, Eleanor S.. Quince Garden, Treasurer, Precious Lulu. Carinzel, Yoshi-m i. Blue Deep, Paris Maid, H. E. Coleman, Judge Pryor, Hutchinson and Noon Winks. From the same point II. Nichols brought Clintonville, Mil-lersburg, Shelbyville, Moysville and Vnlcanor. The small stable of Dan W. Scott, comprising Kasteside, North Elkhorn, Georgette and Marzsie came in charge of French Brooks. From Iiiiisvillc Pete Coyne unloaded ten horses belonging to Geo. J. Long, the band including Free-cutter. Sir Lawnfal, Cczette, Manon. Asia, Melum, Lennder, Recruit, Ann Elizabeth and llamet. The Long stables horses that are being Campaigned in Canada by J. C. Ferris will reach here Monday. The Dortch Bros, stable, in charge cf II. Louden, wan among the arrivals from Louisville and included Flying Prince, Marjorie Mai, Margaret dOr and Squeeze Us. Ex-jockey J. Hanover brought Rlarneystonc and Madras Gingham for M. Reiser, while John 0., tile only other Uorse remaining in tile stable of A. L. Rogers, arrived in care of William Mulholland. Lon Jones, who a number of years ago trained a stable of horses, has succeeded J. S. Ownbey " as trainer of the stable of "Put" Knebelkump. The bosses under his care include Sweet Liberty, Golden Autumn. Wolfs Cry, First National. Jim Ownbey. Earriseade and Natural Bridge. The last-named was claimed out of a race at Saratoga by James Greeaberg. Mr. Ownbey lias lately gotten together a number of horses, some of which he will race in his own colors and the others in the colors of various owners. His charges include Colored Boy and Liberty Maid, botli the property of Polk Lafoon, manager of the Covington Street Railway system and a new recruit to racing. Among the other horses being trained by Ownbey are: Bother-tion. Thinker. Peggy C, Alberta S., Miss Mellish and Wilda Bennett. With the closing of Belmont Park will come an increase of caslcners in this direction, for among those who have shipping here in contemplation and are having utall reservations made, are II. 0. "Bud" Fisher, who will bring a formidable band, including Sporting Blood, to try conclusions in the Latonia Championship Stakes, and S. C. Ilildreth, who will send the crack Grey Lag to strive for the same rich race. Others from the East expected to engage in tiie race include Gifford A. Cochrans Smoke Screen, I. A. Clarks Nancy Lec, W. S. Rowes John Paul Jones and the Greentrce Stables Touch Me Not.
