THUNDERCLAP was saved under restraint until well into the stretch, then wore PETER PIPER down rapidly when called on and, racing into an easy lead, -was under restraint :igain in the final strides. ROUTLKDGE raced in closest pursuit of lKTER PIPER for the first half mile and, finishing resolutely, passed him easily in the last eighth. PETER PIPER s.et a great pace and raced into a long lead, but tired after going live-eighths. CARPET SWEEPER was always outpaced, but ran well and finishec gamely. TRYSTER set a tremendous pace and raced CAREFUL into defeat in the first three-quarters, but could not -withstand the winners challenge. MAD HATTER was in close quarters while rounding the last turn, but after he had secured a clear course in the stretch could not improve his position. CAREFUL ran a good race and came again in the stretch drive. PAUL JONES raced forwardly in the early running. CAPTAIN ALCOCK ran as if unfit. Scratched 55813 Knobbie, 115. MY PLAY met with repeated interference while racing next to the inner rail and moved up menacingly in the stretch run, hut was tiring at the end. RELAY ran prominently and made a game finish.
