NAPA STOCK FARM YEARLINGS Spreckels Has Seventeen Youngsters ReadyJor Schooling Twelve by Sire of Morvich. Bordering on Jack Londons famous Valley of the Moon in California lies the Napa Stock Farm. It was there that Morvich, champion colt of 1921, was foaled. Such a fact alone is enough to make the Napa Stock Farm historical in the world of the thoroughbred. Seated at his desk in San Francisco is Adolph. B. Spreckels, the master of this pretentious breeding establishment, who has spent a fortune attaining just such a pleasure as that which is his through the achievements of Morvich. It is gratifying to all Californians who know him. To the man himself it has come as u tonic in his old age nnd has brought a smile to his face, ne would have given much to have seen the conquests of the mighty son of Runnymede. Ill health, however, has confined him to the inild climate of California, but the reading of the colts success sufficed under the circumstances. Since the early days when James B. Ifaggin, "Lucky" Baldwin, Leland Stanford and Theodore Winters did so much for the running horse A. B. Spreckels has bred thoroughbreds. Always, like the rest, he has hoped for the day which is now Ills. Little else matters in that financiers life. He lives and breathes the exploits of his thoroughbred stock and his happiest moments are spent at the farm. When other Californians retired with the passing shadow of California racing A. B. Spreckels kept on. At last he has had the fulfillment of his greatest wish. He lias bred a champion. What is gratifying, too, tit this day, is that Morvich is almost all of his own breeding. True, Runnymede is by Voter, but Hymir, dam of Morvich. is by Dr. Leggo, by Puryear D., one of the first horses to graze the fields of Napa. Now there is new hope. He has seventeen more yearlings, seven colts ;tml ten fillies, that will soon be taken up and taught their first education of racing. Many are by Rnimymede, others by Dr. Leggo. while Voorliees will be represented by but one youngster. Who knows but what A. B. Spreckels may have another Morvich in the aggregation? In this years crop is a sister to the champion. She is an early foal, having been born in January, 1920, beautiful in conformation and has the size of a matured filly. Another youngster of promise is a filly by Runnymede Salvatrix, and therefore a sifter to Runstar, a colt which made good this year, though disappointing to Mr. Spreckels, who believed him the equal of Morvich earlier in the year. The entire crop of the Xapa Stock Farm yearlings, their names, breeding and description is as follows : Xame. Sire. Dnm. Description Lelola Runnymede. .Embla Ch. Filly Runelia Runnymede. .Hymir Ch.
