ALL READY AT LOUISVILLE Hundreds of Horses at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park. r United Verde, Marjorie Hynes and Bit of White Show Fast Falls City Handicap Trials. LOUISVILLE. Ky., October 10. This city has taken on a real raving atmosphere within the past thirty-six-hours. More than five hundred thoroughbreds which participated in the recent Latonia meetipg have been transferred to the two tracks here Churchill Downs and Douglas Park while the influx of followers of the sport has been greater than ever before at this season of the year. There are still a few more horses to come from the Covington course, but they are small stables and alj. pf, the larger establishments are already on the scene.. General manager Malt Winn came in this morning and will remain until the end of the racing. With Colonel Andrew Vennie he spent Sunday in Lexington looking, after the details in connection with the meeting which opens there on October 24. .Resident manager Charles F. Grainger has everything in readiness for the inauguration of the sport at the Downs. He makes the prediction that the autumn meeting will taken rank with any of its predecessors from every standpoint. The Downs track was at its best this morning and several of the candidates for the ,000 added Falls City Handicap, the opening day!s headliner. were, given good work-outs. The best move was that of. Marjorie Hynes, Harned Brothers eligible for this event,- also turned in a good trial of one mile and an. eighth in i:f3Vn. She covered the quarter in 23, half mile in 48, three-quarters in 1:14 and the mile in 1:40. LADY MADCAP FURNISHES SURPRISE. Home surprise was occasioned among the work watchers when Lady Madcap, which lias confined her racing chiefly to sprinting recently, was sent one and one-quarter miles in 2:1075. No great speed was exacted of her for the first mile, as she ran it in 1:40, but she wound up with a great display of f leetness by running the final quarter of the long joiirijey in 24 Sy. Vesterday morning Hit of White, E. R. Bradleys reliance in the opening day stake race, worked one and one-eighth miles in 1:54. She also ran the first mile in 1:40 in easy fashion. This Columbus Day Handicap, the secondary fea-turo on Wednesdays program, drew twenty-one entries today. Weights and acceptances are due for this race tomorrow. It is a sprint of three-quarters. Edward Jasper, placing judge and member of the board of handicappers of the Kentucky Jockey Club, was unable to leave hir, home in Cincinnati localise of illness. It is doubtful if he will be on hand for the opening of the meeting. Nugent Brothers, St. Louis turfmen, have again retire! from racing. They sold their entire stable, i-onaisMng of Planet. Furbelow, Bullet Proof, Belgian, Queen, Inspector Hughes, Grace and Dixie Carroll to C. B. Shafer and T. J. Conway, both of whom hail from Kansas City. They also purchased Mayflower at Latonin. Lee Krb will train for lie Shafer and Conway firm. Six horses belonging to Snnford Skinner and in charge of trainer 0. P. Rasch, arrived today from Now York. They are Gloomy Gus, Dolman, Radi-ola, Frlzlet, Sungai and Col. Estill. Jockey F. Wdner accompanied this outfit from tin; East. TTainer Jauies Evans of the flifford A. Cochran stable departed for New York to confer with bis employer. Danny ONeil is in charge of the Cochran establishment during his absence. Mr. Kvans will return before the meeting opens. HEADLEY HORSES TO LEXINGTON. Ilal Price Hcadley canceled his stall requisitions here and had his horses sent from Latonia to Lexington, where they will be rested. " J. M. Hukill brought three horses down from Lexiugton Fox, Tennillee and Marine Corps. The first two named belong to J. Hal Woodford, while W. C Goodloe owns the latter. Hukill was training .Zuieika for tbc Latonia and Louisville cup races, but she bowed a tendon and will be out of commission until next year. Eleven horses, making up the stable of Maior T. G. McDowell, arrived last night from Latonia. John Walters brought the George M. Heudrie establishment hero from Toronto. At the conclusion of the Churchill Downs meeting they will go into winder quarters. H. C. "Bud" Fisher came down from Latonia to take a look at his yearlings which are quartered at Douglas Park. Trainer Alex B. Gordon also took the main division of the Fisher outfit to the Rcechmont cpurse to keep the stable intact. Clough-jordan has leen added to the Fisher establishment. Track . sijpejjntcndent Tom Young made ample provisions for a great number of yearlings at Douelas Park and, with a few exceptions, all of the stables, with horses of this age took quarters at that course. Tle .Marshall Brothers horses are en route from New York, according to advices received today. As, was the case at Latonia, the first race here will be called to the post each afternoon at 1:45 oclock.
