GOOD RACING AT LAUREL Bridesman and Knot Win Principal Races-Jockey T. Rowan Suspended. LAUREL, Md., October 10. The Equity, which was carded as the feature attraction at Laurel this afternoon, brought together a well-matched band of good racers and it resulted in victory for William Martins Bridesman, witli Bastille and .leg second and third respectively. The race was not a true run one, as there was considerable crowding going to the first turn. Callahan slipped through next to the inner rail with Bridseman and showed the -way down the backstretch to the Ross starter and Bnnga Buck. .Teg and Dark Horse were outrun and the former was forced to work his way up on the outside when the field was straightened out for the drive through the stretch. Bridesman, under slight pressure, held Bastille safe while .leg got up in the closing strides to pass Bunga Buck. There was considerable rough riding during the running or the Equity Handicap. T. itowan. on Top Sergeant, endeavored to slip through an opening when opposite the eighth post and when Moouey refused to give way with his mount. Breeze, Ilowan struck Mooney repeatedly with his whip. Both riders wen: interviewed by the stewards and T. Rowan was suspended for the remainder of tin; meeting and it was ordered that his badge bo taken up anil he denied admittance to the grounds during racing hours. A claiming handicap, which was run as tlii fifth race on the card, gave the Salubria Stable its first victory when Clements drove Knot through a small opening next to the inside rail when rounding the stretch turn and drew away at the end from AAell-finder and Night Raider. The race was contested by a speedy band and Motor Cop. from J. K. L. Ross stables, was installed the choice. He raced head and head -with AVellfinder in the first half mile, but quit when the real tost came and finished hack in the ruck. Knot, which was restrained from the early pace, responded with good courage and easily outdistanced the leaders when called on. Xight Raider closed with a burst or belated speed and would have been second in a few more strides. The card which was offered this afternoon was an exceptionally good one and resulted in an immense crowd turning out for a Mondays racing. The weather conditions -were all that could bo desired and the track had dried out rapidly after Saturdays deluge. Favorite backers again suffered, although several well-supported second choices were returned winners. STEEPLECHASE SERIES OF MISHAPS. A chapter of accidents marked the running of the steeplechase, which was for maiden three-year-olds and over. G. A Formal! sent, the -winner to the post in Shoal, which led home Left Fielder and .lim Cofrroth. Of the ten that faced the starter but four finished the course without mishaps. The Cosdcn pair. Gimme and Musty, were supported Willi rare confidence and they -were racing wel and showing good jumping ability when both fell at the same fence. Phoenix appeared to have the race won coming to the final obstacle, but hobbled and fell. Deputy Aest was another to fall on the back-stretch and appeared to roll over Jockey Borgan. The latter was removed to the hospital for a. thorough examination. George It. Palmer, -who ofriciated as starter at Richmond, Teturned this morning. Mr. Palmer reports that it was a successrnl meeting, but the closing days races were declared off due to extremely cold weather. W. C. Daly, W. C. Westmoreland and J. .7. McCafrcrty. who had horses at the meeting, shipped direct to Cuba. Trainer Silas Acitch reports that Transpero came out of the steeplechase on Saturday in a bad way. He was unable to stand saddling this morning and will be on the shelf for some time. E. F. Whitney, who has been a visitor for the past few days, will leave for New York in the near future. Joseph E. Davis came down from Xcw York for :i few days racing. E. P. Summcrfield sold the plater Sugarmint to R. T. Ball at private terms. The condition lwoks for the closing nine days racing will be ready for distribution on Friday. .lockey A.
