CHAMPION STAKES WON BY ORPHEUS LONDON, England, Oct. 11. The Champion Stakes of 230 each with 5,000 added, for three-year-olds and over, at one and a quarter mies, was decided at Newmarket this afternoon in dull weather and over a hard track. The race resulted as follows: Sir H. Cunliffe-Owens Orpheus, b. c, 4, by Orby Electra, 126 pounds, evens Gray 1 Lord Derbys Redhead, ch. f, 4, by Harry of Hereford Hair Trigger II., 123 pounds Dono- ghue. 7 to 1 2 Sir Ernest Pagets Paragon, b. c, 4, by Radium Quintessence, 12G pounds Bullock, 3 to 1... 3 Joseph Watsons Love in Idleness, b. or br. f, 3. by Bachelors Double Cornfield, 116 pounds Childs, 7 to 2 4 Orpheus led throughout and won fairly easily by three-quarters of a length, -the same distance separating second and third. The time was 2:05. The Clearwell Stakes of 00 each, with ,500 added, for two-year-olds, at five-eighths, was won by: Joseph Watsons Miss Evans, br. f, by Sted-fast My Dame 1 Sol Joels Pomology, ch. f, by Pommern Sun-Angel 2 H. Saddlers Paulinus, b. c, by Rochester La Melba : 3 Won by a length and a half. Four ran.
