Mrs. K. A. Lawson owns Sweep By, which last year Sam Hildreth discarded and sought to regain without success. The colt isnt going West for the Derby, but will doubtless be in the Preakness and eastern three-year-old fixtures and will be worth consideration. Sweep By has wintered at Gravesend and matured well. Trainer House is most foud of the colt and considers that he was one of the "hard luck" division of 1921 two year-olds, and lost several races, in which he was unplaced. Sweep By only won two races and ,325. Most of that amount came out of his Hudson Stakes victory at Aqueduct, worth ,273. in which he beat ltigheart. Pillory, Toil and a good band. Before that William A. had just beaten him for the Belmont Park Keene Memorial, and he had been defeated under heavy backing for a Belmont purse and run an excellent race — coming at the end — in the Juvenile Stakes contest. Sween By left the nou-winning group in his third race for a Belmont Park purse, Withers Stakes day, running away from a medium class field in fast time. At Saratoga ill fortune pursued the son of Sweep and he was unplaced three times there and twice more in the autumn racing at Belmont Park and Aqueduct. Among these was the Futurity, In the Babylon Handicap at the latter course Sande rode Sweep By excellently for a second behind Surf Bider, but he ran sadly in the fine field that fought out the Bemsen Handicap at Ja-e ■■If and no better in the Oceanus Handicap at the same course. The colts forte was speed and he evidently needed time to grow and learn. Sweep Bys racing doings during 1921 are tabled below: Bace. Track. Wt. Rider. Dist. Time. Fin. Val.
