! 1 ! ! 1 lp- . . eaodtg for Illinois More than 2,500 ChicagOttna attended the Kentucky Derby at Loaisrffle. About 1,000 were present when Whisk-away beat Morvich in t;.c ?jO,000 Ivcu-tucky Special at I.Uoiiia. Perhaps that many more will view tlie I.atonia Derby next Saturday in which the Whitney stars and Thibodaux are ex-ppcted to measure strides at the longer one and a half mile journey. These figures represent only those persons to whom expense of the trip and several days atoenee from work are not a deterrent. These figures, in our opinion, represent only a small fraction of the number of our citizens who would like to see contests between great thoroughbreds such as are staged in Kentucky. That so many find money and time for the pilgrimage is a great tribute to racing as a sport. Pacing would be an asset to Chicago as a vacation point. At both Cincinnati and liouisville we found fellow Citizens there for a week or ten days, spending their vacations whee they could enjoy their favorite sport. We will welcome that day when thirty or forty-five days of racing can be held in Chicago Tinder the protection of a state law legalizing some form of wagering and containing provisions for a state racing commission. There are plenty of prominent citizens willing to farm a high-class jockey club in Chicago. What Illinois needs is for these prominent citizens to impress their views or. our state legislators. -Harry Woodruff la Chicago Tribune. P
