REMARKABLE TRAINING FEAT The feat of R. Bradfield in turning out from his stable the three placed horses in the Caulfield Cup of 1919 has never before been accomplished in connection with an important race in Australia. There have been several cases of one stable providing the first and .second the Caulfield Cup of 1907, in ! which Poseidon just beat Apologue, both trained by the late I. Earnshaw; the Melbourne Cup of 1S97, in wnlch Gaulus beat by a narrow margin The Grafter, both trained by the late William Forrester, and the Melbourne Cup of 1900, in which Clean Sweep won from Malster, both trained by James Scobie, to mention but three instances. Sco-bie started four in that Melbourne Cup Clean Sweep, Malster, La Carabine and The Bride and they were all near the front coming to the home turn. La Carabine finished seventh and The Bride a long way farther back. In the "Victoria Derby of 1906 horses trained by Scobie ran first F. J. A., second Sweet Nell and fourth Emir. The mos.. remarkable-record of this kind, however, was in connection with a minor event a nursery handicap at Rosehill, N. S. W., in 1S91, when five horses were started from T. Pay-tens stable Donation, Autonomy, Arquebus-, Warpaint and The Rector and they finished at the head of the field in that order.
