The great Australian race horse Carbine contested two races on the one day on five occasions, viz., the Victoria All-Aged Stakes and Loch Plate, and Australian All-Aged Stakes and Cumberland Stakes, as a three-year-old; the Victoria All-Aged Stakes and Loch Plate, and the Australian All-Aged Stakes and Cumberland Stakes, as a four-year-old; and the Australian All-Aged Stakes and Cumberland Stakes as a five-year-old. The only occasion on which he was defeated when he ran two races on the one day was when Marvel accounted for him in the Australian All-Aged. Stakes, when Carbine was five years old.
