ODD BETTING OCCURENCES Many peculiar bets have been made on the English turf. A well-known bookmaker named John Haynes once offered 00 to a cigarette against a horse, which was accepted, and then he tendered a further 00 to a match against the same animal which ran unplaced. On several other occasions he laid 00 to a shilling against a horse, but never had to pay. However, in 1914 at Hurst Park he tendered these odds against a horse named Form, which proved successful and the bet was promtly settled on the spot amidst loud cheering.
