I. ililler will remain at Saratoga with their racing strings for a week after the close of the meeting, when the horses will be shipped to Havre de Grace for the opening of the Maryland circuit T. C. Campbell of New Orleans is her--, on his annual visit, tanned like an Indian from his yachting season. Ben Beach, who has the management of jockcyc Joseph Rowan a.id John MsTaggart, came in for a short visit from Canada, bringing Rowan with him. lie will leave fr Ottawa tomorrow night with Rowan. Jefferson Livingston motored up from New York to see his two-year-old Newmarket run in the second race. He returns to the city tonight but will be back Monday for the remainder of the meeting. Livingston entered Firebrand in the, 5,000 Washington Handicap, the big feature of the Laurel meeting, today. Jockey J. D. Mooney departed for his home in New Orleans to rest until his injured foot completeily heals. He will ride in Kentucky during the autumn racing season. Trainer Tom Moran shipped the William Martin horses to Belmont Park this afternoon. The Montfort Jones establishment, in charge of trainer Kay Spence, was sent to Churchill Downs tonight. Jockeys E. Scobie and W. Pool leave for Louisville tomorrow morning. John E. Madden today sold the two brocd mares Royal Martyr and Pleione, which he purchased at the Beverwyck Farm dispersal sale last night, to J. C. Milam. The first claim in any of the French claiming races of the meeting to date came with the running of the first race today, when Frank M. Taylor took Blue and Gold from Steve Judge for ,510. J. C. Milam will have no starter in the Spinaway Stakes, although he had hoped to be both first and second in that rich filly stake with Anna M. Humphrey and Dust Flower, winner of the Flash Stakes. Both of these fillies have gone wrong in making ready for that prize and will be shipped to Louisville tomorrow with the Desha Breckinridge string. The two fillies" will be sent to Mr. Milams farm and turned out for the rest of the year in the hope that they will be brought back for their three-year-old engagements. These two fillies were the only ones saved in the disastrous fire cf the Milam stable early in the racing year and each had shown enough to warrant the belief that they were of real Spinaway class. In fact, Mr. Milam also considered his chance for winning the Hopeful with Anna M. Humphrey, with August Belmonts Messenger out of the way, particularly bright Sam Louis claimed Bud Fisher out of the third race from Benjamin Block for ,015. Selby Burch tried the Salubria Stable3 Tuxedo without blinkers in the last race.
