"BOOKIES" KEPT ALL MONEY At a race meeting in Australia the judges gave a decision in a peculiar case. In the hurdle race at the Pirron Yalloak meeting there were three starters and only two finished. The stewards decided that the horses which finished had missed a hurdle, disqualified both horses and declared all bets off, The question was raised whether the stewards had power to declare bets off, and the matter was referred to the racing commission for decision. The committee decided that the Pirron Yalloak stewards had no power to declare bets off and that all bets stood. Consequently, the bookmakers keep all the money wagered with them on the race. 1 i . i i
