Secretary Victor Schaumburg of the Empire City-course has sent out the program book for the meeting -which will open there Monday, October 16, and conclude Saturday, October 28. There will be accordingly twelve days of sport for the windup of the season in this state for the current year. The autumn in -Westchester is delightful, and the Empire City course is in the heart of the most picturesque portion of the region. It is a pleasant ride from the city by automobile, while those who go by train have a fine service to the Yonkers or Mount Vernon stations. The stake events for the meeting include the Scarsdale Handicap for all ages at a mile, which is the feature of the opening day, and carries an added value of ,000. All the best of the horses in training are in it and if Lucky Hour, Kai-Sang, Grey Lag, Tryster, John Paul Jones, Crocus, Cirrus, Little Chief, Mad Hatter, Thunderclap and other eligibles go to the post there will be a horse race of the highest quality. The two-year-olds McKee, Heremon, Vanderburg and Eth-nea are among the nominations. A good two-year-old would have a chance to win at a mile at this time of the year. The Hartsdale Stakes, for two-year-olds, to be run the second day, has ,000 added also. It is at about three-quarters and in it are Zev, Cherry Pie, Runviso, Bud Lerner, McKee, "Wilderness, Tall Timber, Rialto, Great Man, Curtis, Dustabout and other good ones. FIRST SATURDAYS FEATURE. The Rainbow, with ,000 added, a selling event for two-year-olds, is down for Thursday, while the New Rochelle Handicap, for three-year-olds, with ,000 added, over the mile and a sixteenth route, is the feature for the first Saturday. In it are Kai-Sang, Lucky Hour, Missionary, Southern Cross, Prudish, Nedna, Pillory, Emotion, Horologe, Morvich, Hephaistos, Irish Brigadier and others that have won good races this year. On the second Monday the Autumn Days Stakes of ,500 added, at five and a half furlongs, for two-year-olds, will bring to the post an evenly matched lot of juveniles, the entry including Pandowdy, Osprey, Amor Patriae, Runviso, Hobgoblin, Curtis, Golden Rule, Drogheda, Stockmar, Purity, Anonymous, Battersea, Great Lady, Bayonet and Heremon. The Fordham Selling Stakes will be run on the next day. It is for three-year-olds and over, at a mile and seventy yards, and has ,000 added. The best of the nominations are On Watch, Nose Dive, Sedgefield, Duncecap, Modo, Rebuke, Pirate Gold, Sun-nyland, Whisk, Costigan and Tufter. The Ardsley, a handicap for two-year-olds, at about three-quarters, is the feature for Thursday, October 26. It has an added value of ,000 and closed with sixty-three nominations. Virtually every good two-year-old is named and it ought to be a fine test, as everybody with a fair colt or filly will want to see them in the last stake of the season on the local courses.
