BAD FIRE AT CARMAN FARM Disastrous Blaze Destroys Fifteen Broodmares and Ten Sucklings. LAUREL, Md., October 2. A disastrous fire which swept Carmandale Stock Farm at Silver Springs Stock Farm, the property of Richard F. Carman, at 1 oclock this morning caused the death of fifteen brood mares and ten sucklings. The cause of the fire is unknown. The blaze was discovered by Mr. Carman and in a few moments the barn was enveloped in a sheet of flame, malting rescue work impossible. The stallions and three mares which were stabled in another barn were the only ones that escaped. This is the second fire that has visited the Carman breeding farm in a short space of time.. The insurance held on the mares was estimated at about one-third their value. The stable help, which were asleep in a separate building, were aroused, but their efforts to extinguish the flames were of no avail. The stallions Meridian and The Turk and three aged mares were all that was left at the pretentious farm this morning.
