MAY THE DAY BE NEAR Among the visitors at Hawthorne during the first week of the meeting were several members of the Illinois state legislature. One group included Senator John Dailey of Peoria, republican floor leader in the upper house, and Senator Denvir of Chicago. "It is a beautiful sight," Senator Dailey declared. "And when conducted properly as the Hawthorne meeting seems to be, there is no greater sport." He was of the opinion that Illinois some day will have a law regulating racing the same as Kentucky and other states, but would not venture a prediction on how quick it will come.
