SALLYS ALLEYS CLOSE CALL LAUREL, Md., October 21. How close Sallys Alley came to fighting a battle with pneumonia instead of contesting for and winning the much coveted and valuable Futurity has just come to light. Trainer Eugene "Wayland, who prepared the Kilmer filly for the big Belmont Park race, confirmed reports of her sickness prior to the running when asked about the matter today. "When returning to Saratoga from Latonia with Exterminator," said Wayland, "my stable foreman told me that Sallys Alley was sick. I went to work on her at once and kept at it all night. This wa6 all that saved her from an attack of pneumonia." How the filly, under the watchful care of her trainer, rounded into top form again quickly enough to beat the best colts of the year in th great Belmont Park Juvenile fixture is a matter of turf history.
