AUSTRALIAN STAKE RESULTS Scarlet Takes Oaks Easily from Steel and Gold Victoria Derby to Whittier. J. I. Winter Irvings Scarlet won the Australian Oaks at the Flemington course, Victoria, Australia, November 9, according to dispatches from the Antipodes. G. Tantrams Steel and Gold was second, two and a half lengths farther back, and Ursina, owned by Stuart Brunton, trailed her by five lengths in third place. The mile and a half was covered in 2:39J,1. Scarlet was an even money favorite, while 3 to 1 was quoted against Steel and Gold, and 12 to 1 against Ursina. The Victoria Racing Club Derby, run November 5, at Flemington, was also won by the favorite, B. Chaffeys Whittier, which beat the 50 to 1 shot, Cliffdale, by two lengths and a half. Anton King was third. Whittier was quoted at 5 to 2 in the wagering. He won the Caulfield Cup October 21. He is a brown colt by AVoorak Polacca, by Bobadil.
