EEMAEKABLE BIDING FEAT A wonderful riding feat was that of Rear don who found himself without a bridle when Excelsior blundered badly at the fence beyond the water in the Hookwood Selling Steeplechase at Gatwick in 1917 Not only did Reardon complete the course without it on Mr Woottons chestnut jumping four more fences but he actually finished third in the race keeping the horse in the course and guiding him with his whip A soldier confrere standing by as Reardon came back into the unsaddling inclosure remarked Thafs how they ride them in the army Reardon by the way was a sergeant London Sporting Life
