DUETTISTE WINS IN ENGLAND NEW YORK N Y February 2 Joseph E Widener lias received a cable from Escott telling him of a victory scored by his Grand National candidate Duettiste in a recent minor steeplechase It was the second start of the son of Ethclbert and Dulcibclla this year His first was in the Victory Steeple ¬ chase at Manchester January 2 On that occasion he was fourth but he gave an ac ¬ count of himself that was pleasing to Escott EscottThe The cable also informed Mr Widener that Duettiste would be started in the Grand Allies Steeplechase at Manchester Saturday In this race Duettiste is handicapped at 159 and having won since the publication of weights it is expected that a penalty will bring his weight to 164 pounds poundsHabton Habton the mare that was winner of the Victory Steeplechase in which Duettiste was fourth Is top weight for the Allies but it is not likely she will be started for she has been declared out of the Grand National This steeplechase will be an Important part of the preparation of Duettiste for the big prize and how he performs will be of great interest to American sportsmen
