PLANNING STAKE PROGRAM Pacific Coast Jockey Club to Es ¬ tablish California Futurity and Other Attractive Features SAN FRANCISCO Cal Febraury 2 The stakes to be announced soon by the Pacific Coast Jockey Club will have conditions that promise to attract entries from the largest stables in the country Encouragement of thoroughbred breeding formerly one of the chief industries of California and which is fast coming into its own again hereabouts will be the keynote of the terms of the fea ¬ tures to be run at picturesque Tanforan Park The names of some of the big events will be reminiscent of the glorious days of racing in the past pastCharles Charles T Boots Robert F Leighton and Floyd L McKenney are preparing the an ¬ nouncement of the stakes which are to close March 1 All of the offerings will be at distances and of values to appeal to the owners of the best horses in training The management of the new course down the peninsula is determined to be liberal in all its dealings thus laying a solid foundation for ultimate success successThe The California Futurity probably at three quarters of a mile will be run each autumn beginning in 1021 Conditions will be almost identical with those of the Futurity of Bel ¬ mont Park Nominations for the 1924 Futu ¬ rity and the 1925 Futurity will close March 1 of this year yearNext Next fall there will be a stake race for twoyearolds and it will probably be run in future years even when the California Futurity is to be decided The race is de ¬ signed to settle the question of champion ¬ ship of the youngsters racing out this way wayA A stake at a mile or a mile and seventy yards this year for threeyearolds in all likelihood will be named in honor of a pioneer horseman of this state Racing enthusiasts thrill over no contest more than one at a distance that is a test of endurance as well as speed so a feature at three miles or thereabouts will be run this year to set the ball rolling in longroute traveling Even t only two horses go to the post the fans are tickled by a long race raceGraded Graded handicaps allowance contests and the stakes will make up about the entire card at Tanforan on the days when the sport is calling out its thousands from the San Fran ¬ cisco bay region It is possible there will be no claiming races Selling races are taboo
