HUNTINGTON OUTLOOK GOOD Liberal Response Being Made in inTwo Two Stake Events Plenty of ofHorses Horses Are Available HUNTINGTON W Ya March 17 J F Peck general manager of the West Virginia Jockey Club has wired from New Orleans that he will return from the Crescent City well armed with stake nominations for the West Virginia Derby and the TriState Han ¬ dicap These are the two stake events to be decided at the Fair Grounds during the coming spring meeting of fifteen days start ¬ ing on April 12 and running through April 28 The Derby will be at a mile and one eighth while the handicap will be over the threequarters route Each stake carries an added value of 2000 2000Julius Julius G Reeder racing secretary has been assisting Mr Peck in securing stake nomi ¬ nations from horsemen in New Orleans Reeder has notified the local office of the jockey club that at least 200 horses will be shipped here for the spring meeting A ma ¬ jority of these horses will come to Hunting ton within the next few days but a few owners will refrain from shipping here until the conclusion of the Mobile meeting Reeder will arrive here on April C to take charge of the racing department departmentAll All racing officials have been selected and have announced their acceptance of the po ¬ sitions tendered them except the starter An ¬ nouncement of the appointment of a starter will be made by general manager Peck upon his arrival from New Orleans on Tuesday It is more than likely that Tom Brown who did such efficient work here last fall will again hold down the job In the event that Brown does not come here Buddy Wing field will spring the barrier barrierAt At the present time fifty horses are in active training at the local course By the end of the week it is expected that there will be at least 150 thoroughbreds quartered at the Fair Grounds Track superintendent Bergen has the course in excellent condi ¬ tion but no fast moves have been attempted as yet Superintendent Bergen states that the local course is one of the fastest tracks in the country and expects excellent marks to be registered by the thoroughbreds thoroughbredsWilliam William Dondas who will be in charge of the parimutuel department has notified the management that 125 horses will come here from Oriental Park at the conclusion of the Cuban meeting In order to take care of the numerous horses being shipped here it has been found necessary to erect two additional stables The stabling capacity will be suf ¬ ficient to house 425 horses when all work is completed
