ANOTHER LADIES DAY Brings Out a Fine Attendance at Mobiles Racing Jacobean Defeats Fitter Patter in inFeature Feature Race Assume AssumeTakes Takes Another Purse MOBILE Ala March 27 The Reiss Purse for fouryearolds and over at a mile featured the card of six races that fur nished entertainment at the Fair Grounds this afternoon It resulted in a big surprise when Jacobean the outsider of the field of five that faced the starter which won a purse yesterday outfooted the others from start to finish He led by a big margin for the first half of the race when Fitter Patter moved up with a rush and for a time ap ¬ peared the most probable winner But on the stretch turn Bell hugged the rail with Jacobean while Mangan came a trifle wide with Pitter Patter and this decided the re ¬ sult as Jacobean saved enough ground to hold his advantage to the end and win in a hard drive by a head while Pitter Patter was a half length in front of Tulane which in turn was a head before Financial Rooster Exhorter the oddson favorite was voted the surest winner of the day but finished in last place He had a rough race from the start and every time Martin made a move witli him he was interfered with while in addition Martin seemed to change his style of riding several times and the horse really never had a chance to get into his stride strideThis This was the second ladies day of the meeting and as once more beautiful weather was in order the fair members turned out in such large numbers as to fill both stands standsSpeculation Speculation on the different races was spirited throughout the day dayAfter After many efforts J Arthurs Tricks met a band here this afternoon in which lie possessed the most speed and was returned the winner Hot Foot secured second place from the gray gelding Ely ElyJOCKEYS JOCKEYS RUNNING WILD WILDHerding Herding appears to be the ambition of the jockeys riding here at present Judge Mur ¬ phy seems to have lost control of the riders and his repeated warnings to them had little effect effectEscaping Escaping interference in the last race FJy paper won with ease from Ardito and British Liner Flypaper and Ardito raced in first ami second places all the way and a large margin separated them from British Liner which finished third The latter was well supported and showed a good performance after overcoming early interference interferenceT T Johnston astride of Harvey Smarr was held responsible for the crowding while go ¬ ing to the first turn and was suspended for the remainder of the meeting meetingUsing Using rough riding methods in the opening race ockey E Martin was able to score a victory on Flip the favorite by almost two lengths from Machiavelli and Sea Board BoardG G W Butlers Sweet Mama showed a high flight of speed in the second race and won by six lengths and set a new track record for the distance Panasain took second place by a little more than a length from Fernan dos which beat Runleigh by a short head for the small end of the purse purseJohn John Leonard scored his second victory of the meeting when his Assume won the third race beating the favorite Grayson while the latter beat Guvnor for second place
