CHAS. F. GRAINGER DEAD LOUISVILLE. Ky.. April 13.— Charles F. Grainger, former mayor of Louisville, and for many years president of the New Louisville Jockey Club, as well as president of Grainger and Company, iron founders, of this city, one of the oldest industries of Louisville, who died this afternoon, was one of the Lest known men in Kentucky. Though he had retired from the presidency of the race track when it was merged into the Kentucky Jockey Club. Mr. Grainger continueel to be resident manager of Churchill Downs. Mr. Grainger was one of the moving spirits in the reorganization of racing in Ken-tucky, which resulted in the elimination of the CVUa-Adler-Tillts interests and the formation of tiie company which obtained control of Churchill Downs, Douglas Baric, Lexington and Latonia. He was also largely instrumental in persuading the New Louisville Jockey Club and the State Pacing Commisison, of which he was a member, to adopt the pari-mutuel system of betting, and while that was on trial was its Stanch supporter and carried it through to complete success. While on the State Racing Commission he- took an unalterable stand against reinstatement of any person who had been ruled off the turf for cheating.
