PREAKNESS ENTRIES • Total of One Hundred Forty-Three Nominations for 0,000 Race. . » , Practically All the Prominent Kentucky Derby Candidates, Except Geldings, Are Named. BAT.TIMOPE. Md.. April in.— The Maryland Jockey Clnb today announced the entries for the 0,000 Preakness Stakes, to be run at Pimlic-o Saturday, May 12, the closing day of tie meeting. The total nominations numter 142, thre» less than for the Kentucky Derby. However geldings are not eligible for the Preakness. whereas they are permitted to start in Kentuckys famous race and this in a measure. I accounts for the fewer entr:es as practically I all the colts and fillies named for the historic Churchill Downs fixture are included among ! the Pivakne-s entries. A total of fifty-eight , different interests are represented in the nominations. There will be no conflict in dnt -s this ! year for the running of the Preakres and ■ Kentucky Derby as was the case last year. The Preakness will be de tided on May 12 and the Derby a wed-; later. This happy arrangement will give owners an opportunity to start their representatives in both races and several turfmen already have made it : known that it is their intention to try for I both rich prizes. In addition to the Easte-n turfmen who have their stables either here in Maryland or in New York, a number who are quartered I at the Louisville tracks are planning to ship j their Treakness candidates here and finish their training at Pimlieo. shipping bach to I Kentucky immediately after the big race of ; May VI. The Preakness has $"i0.000 added : nd is i for three-year-old colts and filliDs. geldings I not being eligible. The distance is one mile I and an eighth. This old fixture and the i Belmont Stakes, to he run at Pel nont Park, i are the richest stakes for three-year-olds run in the Bast, The following are the entries for the Preakness: Allen. O.
