ABERDEENSTAKESDAYi ♦ June Flower the Winner in a Great Finish of Five. — ♦ Picnic First at Long Odds — Wee r Dear Gives Owner Wilson a * q Race — Avisack Wins. I i • HAVRE DE GRACE. Md.. April 25.— Tt was l only because June Flower left the post like ° Mother Lady Amelia that she was returned 4 the winner of the ,000 Aberdeen Stakes at a Havre de Grace this afternoon. It was a v four and a half furlongs dash and at the u end the daughter of Theo. Cook and June Rug was out to the last ounce and Andy s Schuttinger was riding his best to make her ■ stick it out and beat .lohn Farrell, Jr.s Dr. l OMara, while Walter J. Salmons Reau Nash. « after racing on the outside all the way, was *• a close up third. 1 It was a delightful day for the sport, but a with the exception of the Aberdeen Stakes the fields were made up of selling platers. Some -e of them were of the decidedly useful grade - " and the entertainment was high class, with the finishes excitingly close. FOURTEEN STARTERS FACE BARRIER. Fourteen went to the post in the Aberdeen Stakes and after a short delay starter Milton sent them off in excellent alingment Schut- [ tinger had June Flower in her stride and shot her out from the others with a rush that took her clear at the time flag. He * continued to rush her along until she was J many lengths away and skimming the rail at a great pace.. In the stretch she began to i tire, but Schuttinger nursed her along and I i although the others were closing up on her with every stride she stuck it out. Dr. ! , OMara, a first-time starter, was coming ; with a grand rush next to the rail that all | but took the race. Beau Nash, having to , race on the outside all the way, was prob- : ably best of them all, for he was doing bet-ter than the first two at the end and only : a head away. Dazzler. the Whitney starter, was another whose inability to hold his place J ; in the early running was a serious handicap. June Flower is unbeaten up to this time, but it is safe to predict that she is probably . about through beating good ones, for she may not stick it out for five-eighths, the distance the two-year-olds will be required to race before long. She is one of the most t rapid beginners seen in recent years and Roy , Waldron has taught her all there is to know f in barrier manners. Tom Mealy sent another of the Richard T. Wilson speedy home-bred two-year-olds to the post in the opening half-mile rash when he saddled Wee Dear, a daughter of Camp-lire and Ma Wee Dear This filly showed becoming gameness when she outtinished Nor-mana, while Julia M. was third. Normana set the pace, but in the stretch Wee Dear caught her and in a long light outgamed her to win by a narrow margin. Julia M. attracted most of the betting attention before the race, but did not have any excuse for being third instead of first. She was so well thought of that there were two elainis made for her before the race, as is required tinder the Maryland rule. These were made by James Arthur and G. L. Richards and in the draw she went to Arthur for ,000. PICNIC BEST OF PLATERS. Picnic won from a cheap band at three-quarters in the second race and the James Batter eastoff seems to be nothing more than a three-quarters horse. Second place fell to Tarn, one that two years back raced urder the colors of the Creentree Stable, while third was the portion of Whalebone. This order of the finish was something of a surprise, for Forest Queen and Iietrus were greatly fancied. Pietrus set the earls pace, but was through when the stretch was reached, and Forest Queen, after beginning slowly, was raced on the outside and was at no time a prominent contender. The class of the starters in the third race was a bit belter and in it Avisack, that now races for N. Lascolzo, outgamed Second ! Thoughts in the final drive. Second Thoughts set a good puce and Prince Regent chased 1 along after her. while Elemental showed a I Hash nf speed. When the stretch was reached I and both w re through Marinelli rushed l Avisack up on the outside and beat the tiring pacemaker home by a neck, "amoutlage • after racing forwardly most of the way, , saved third place. After the race there were three claims and I P.. A. Jones took Second Thoughts for ;.00, . S. J. Kelly took Elemental for ,200 and I Superlative went to M. J. Reid for , .00. Episode. Quite a useful plater just now. . won the fifth race, making it his third at t the meeting. In his previous winning race 1 he was claimed from A. S. Woodliffe by J. A. Coburn, for whom he ran today. After the race it was discovered he had been claimed 1 back by Woodliffe for ,000 and. under the 8 Continued on twelfth pace. ABERDEEN STAKES DAY Continued from first page. rules, will not be permitted to start for a period of thirty days from today. Pastoral Swain and Episode alternated in making the pace and Episode finally made the Winfrey plater quit and then Fannie Bean came fast and was a good second, wearing the winner down with every stride. Maryland Belle finished third, the others being pretty well strung out. Doughnut, showing sudden improvement, won the sixth race, a mile and an eighth dash, but he was only home first by a narrow margin, and had Abel kept Super straight in the stretch it is probable Doughnut would have been second. Then Bolster took the last race of the day in a canter, with The Lamb second and the outsider Staunch third at a long price. • .
