GLASS IDOL WINS FEATURE _ I Outsider Defeats Sangrail and Sewing Machine in the Great M9tropolitan Stakes. LONDON. England. April 25. — For the second - year in succession the Great Metropolitan - Stakes, the first long-distance race of f note over the flat and the feature of the ,. opening day at the Epsom Spring Meeting, r has been won by an outsider. Mrs. Heybourries five-year-old horse Glass Idol, starting at 25 to 1 against, won yesterday - by two lengths over Joseph Bensons a Sangrail. the winner last year, at the outside odds of 20 to 1 against. Sangrail. which started at 100 to 9 against, finished half a length in front of E. L. J. Rawsons four-year-old Sewing Machine, quoted at 7 to 1 against. Eighteen horses started. The Great Metropolitan Stakes is over a course of two ami a quarter miles. The winner was lightly weighted, carrying only 91 pounds, as compared with Sangrails ; allotment of 105 pounds and Sewing Machines 10S.
