Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Oct 20, 1903 Racing at Brighton Beach, Worth and St Louis. Trouble that has been brewing over the services of jockey Grover Cleveland Fuller came to the surface at Brighton Beach. During the Morris Park meeting E. R. Thomas, who has third call on Fuller, took exception to the way he rode the 7;000 filly Lady Amelia in several big stakes. Fuller "was cut up about it, and so was his manager, Archie Zimmer, who brought the boy from New Orleans. Yesterday Mr. Thomas had "Lady Amelia and St. Valentine entered in the Peconic Stakes. Fuller expected to ride Lady Amelia, but was surprised to learn -that Mr. Thomas regular jockey, Rice, who had not been in the stable for months, had received the . mount, while St. -Valentine had been turned over to him. Zimmer was decidedly hot- under the collar at this action and promptly declared that in future Mr. Thomas would be prevented by him from making use ;of FuBer. - - " C , -t- tfifsa it -.fit s u
