FOREIGN JUMPERS ON WAY First Shipment of Subscription Horses Left France Last Week. Enongh Steeplechasers to Fill Thlrty-Ono Subscriptions Taken Have Been Bought and "Will Bo Here for Drawing In November. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct 23. The realization of the benefits for steeplechasing which will come with the consummation of the plans of the committee in charge of the International Steeplechase subscription is soon to be made evident to the fullest extent. "When the plan was first suggested hopes were based at a generous mark, but the most optimistic did not dare predict the support that has been received. When the subscriptions closed in August thirty-one names, were on the list, and several applications were made after the closing, but as too much .time was taken for consideration these latecomers must wait for the next one, for others are sure to be arranged so enthusiastic has been the interest shown in the initial one. The horses to supply the full number of the subscriptions have been purchased, and one consignment was shipped from France during the last week. Those bought in England are booked to leave the latter part of this month. On arrival they will be assambled with the French consignment at Belmont Park and given a chance to recover from the wear and tear of the voyage. PLAN FOR DRAWING. The drawing will be held early in November. The subscribers will be invited to attend on a certain day to be announced later, and to each will be delivered a made jumper to be turned over to the trainer they may select, for the winters rest and then preparation! for the campaign next spring, not alone in the special races that will be arranged for the subscription horses but in all the open events of New York, Maryland and Canada, The list of subscribers to the subscription this year are: John McE. Bowman Mrs. Raymond T. Baker W. C. Langlcy Mrs. Ethel T. Roberts Mrs. Payne Whitney Mrs. John D. Hertz Frederick Johnson Mrs. F. S. von Stade E. R. Bradley Thomas F. Ryan George D. Widcner James A. Buchanan Log Cabin Stud, Inc. Herbert L. Pratt David Dows Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt II. Charles Hayden Mortimer L. Schiff Mrs. George W. Loft Clarence Dillon Stephen Sanford W. R. Coe Julius Fleischmann Price McKinney Harrison Williams Bayard Tuckerman, Jr. Arthur Fowler Marshall Field III. Joseph E. Davis Robert S. Clark Walter J. Salmon MANY NEWC03IERS. On this list about two-thirds have never before this year seen their colors carried in a steeplechase and several have never raced cither through the field or on the flat. They have come in on a sporting proposition for sentiment alone, and this means assured support for the future. Summed up, the committee in charge of the subscription undertook to do in a few months what under ordinary conditions or methods would have meant years of hard work. What is more, those that make their start with the subscription are of the sort that will go on and build up. As to the class of horses that are coming over to be distributed, it seems in place to quote a well-known trainer of jumpers who has recently returned from Franco. Before he sailed he made a special visit to the quarters of the horses that are now en route from France. He has repeatedly stated that without hesitation he would be proud to have any one of them to carry the colors of his employer.
