Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Nov. 15, 1903 Sunday, no racing. Mr. Edward Corrigan paid a visit to Chicago to inspect his big string of thoroughbreds which he has quartered at the Hawthorne track. He has fifty horses there now, including a big division of yearlings. J. L. McGinnis won about ,000 over the victory of Sweet Alice in the Union Handicap at Jamaica last Thursday and then turned around and bought the game little filly from Lawrence Waterbury for that amount. George Odom has asked the stewards of the Jockey Club to order the payment of his claim for twenty-one days services for "Alex" Shields at the rate of ,000 per month. The matter was referred to F. R. Hitchcock and the assistant secretary for further investigation. Leopold de Rothschild heads the list of winning owners in England by a small margin, but his stallion St. Frusquin, which ran second to Persimmon in the Derby and St. Leger and beat him in the Two Thousand Guineas, heads the list of winning sires by so large a margin that it is impossible for any other stud horse to -overtake him at this late day. Mr. Rothschild is one of the most amiable gentlemen in all England and a confirmed invalid. His health is so poor that he does not see the horses run in one out of ten races, yet he bears all his ailments with fortitude and never once utters a word of complaint.
