Becomes an Enthusiastic Sportsman After Having Shown His Silks for the Tirst Time Last Year. 4 NEW YORK, N. Y., Jan. IS. One of the buyers at Willis Sharpe Kilmers Belmont Park sale last year, when he disposed of most of his stable, was Lee Rosenberg. He was newcomer to the turf, but he paid good prices for his purchases and he took four sj of the offerings. Sun Pal, Sun Audience, fl Suncar and Ascyra. J. D. Odom had fcesn engaged to train these colts and it was not p long before the Rosenberg silks were shown. c. That was the beginning of a stable that tj will undoubtedly bo built up to much more importance before the end of this season. j, in Mr. Rosenberg is a cotton broker, well able to indulge in the sport in a big way, and c never was there a more enthusiastic sports- z man. During "the year he made additions j to his stable and he purchased seven year- a lings during the year that have grown into exceedingly good-looking two-year-olds. YEARLINGS SELECTED CAREFULLY q b The yearlings were bought late in the fall, after they had been highly tried, and they J were carefully selected. They are all well engaged and should they race to the promise of their trials the Rosenberg silks will attain 1 a real importance before the season is old. a Trainer Odom has the string at Belmont . Park and, while it is impossible at this g early .time to form any definite opinion on I li the possibilities of the two-year-olds, it is r enough to know that they are grand indi- t viduals and are bred along lines that are 1 calculated to bring results. s Probably the best of the young thorough- 1 breds is Highbinder, a handsome brown son of the Futurity winner Trojan and Bella t Desmond, a daughter of Desmond. This fel- r low is a brother to Desperate Desmond, one c of the three-year-olds in the Rosenberg string. He is engaged in all of the. important juvenile stakes of the year. Four of the seven two-year-olds that are to bear the Rosenberg silks this year are t colts and have been christened Forward Pass, Highbinder, Chink and Gus R. The lillies have been named Extra Dry, Polly McWig- t gles and Straddles. j Clarence Kummer has been engaged as first jockey for the Rosenberg stable, and with his long saddle experience the engagement is one that should mean much for the success of the establishment.
