Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of Jan. 19, 1904 Racing at New Orleans, Los Angeles and Oakland. M. J. Dalys Claude won the. daily handicap at Oakland, defeating Fossil and Faulcon-bridge,- the only other starters. The distanc2 was one mile. J. O. Keene, who trained M. Lazareffs racing string in Russia last year and who secured option on Winkfields sarvices for 1905 for Lazareff, has received a cablegram from St. Petersburg stating that Lazareff had accepted first call on Winkfield in consideration of 10,000 Russian rubles about ,000. The cablegram stated that expense money, in ths shape of a Russian check for 1,000 rubles, had been forwarded. E. C. Hoppers depositions in answer to intarrogatories relative to allegations made by W. E. Applegate in his suit against George E. Perkins for control of the Latonia race track were filed in Kenton Circuit Court at Covington last Tuesday. Mr. Hopper says that when he met Applegate on the Ingleside raca track in December, 1902, the latter denied that he had said he knew nothing of the sale of his Latonia stock and told him that he not only knew of the sale but had also told Mark Simonton about it.
