FOR GRAINGER MEMORIAL Friends of Late Kentucky Sportsman Begin Movement to Perpetuate His Memory. . LOUISVILLE, Ky.. Feb. 2. Friends of the late Charles F. Grainger, one of the most ardent patrons of the turf the sport ever knew, have begun a movement to perpetuate his memory in connection with the Grainger Memorial Handicap, which has replaced the Kentucky Handicap among the spring Stakes of the Kentucky Jockey Club. Several of the intimate friends of the late Mr. Grainger have launched a subscription for a handsome cup to cost about ,000 to be awarded in this stake after the manner of the Preakness Cup at Baltimore. The owner of the horse winning the handicap is to have possession of the original for a year, at the end of that hime he is to turn it back to the club to be presented to the winner of the succeeding year. Each winner, however, is to receivo a miniature duplicate of the cup after the original passes out of his possession. The plan to buy the Grainger Cup has been initiated by Bailor Hickman, John S. Mid-dleton, Lawrence Jones, A. J. Carroll, J. B. Minnegerode and Sam Stone.
